Songs based on the theme of peace rend the air of Senapati district today exhorting different groups of people living in the State to break free from their narrow parochial outlook and confinement, and live together in the spirit of fraternity and communal amity.
The event was the first ever district level singing competition held on the theme of peace at Senapati Stadium ground.
Participated by choir groups of fourteen different communities including Nepali, the event was jointly organised by St John Bosco, Maram Centre Church, Maram Bazar Baptist Church, Tangkhul Baptist Church, Phayang Baptist Church, Sepumai Catholic Church, Kangpokpi Baptist Church, Kangpokpi Independent Church, Ningthoupham, Hengbung, T Khullen, Kalapahar Bible Church, Poumai Baptist Church and Chawang Baptist Church.
A group of Naga singers coining from Ningthoupham village inhabited mostly by Thangal tribe and another group of Kuki singers from Hengbung village inhabited by Kuki tribe joined in rendering a devotional song evoking the God for peace and harmony in the strife-torn State, striking the right cord with the audience at the very outset of the function.
In the competition section, the choir group of Hengbung Baptist Church secured the first position and that of Kangpokpi Independent Church won the second position.
Cash prizes of Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 were presented respectively to the first and second winner of the competition.
The remaining 12 choir groups were also felicitated with Rs 2000 each by Addl Dy Commissioner of Senapati Suman Singh, IAS during the function.
Chief functionary of Kalapahar to Maram Christian Peace Promotion Fellowship, Manipur and Manipur North Eastern Development Assn Peter gave the welcome address expressed his gratitude to all' those persons and social organisation which have extended financial assistance to make the event a grand success.
