Imphal, November 29:
The civil administrative set up in Singngat sub division headquarters, which have been non-functional since the Zomi-Kuki ethnic clashes in 1997-98 was formally reactivated today.
A day-long civic program was held today at Singngat to mark the occasion.
The function was hosted by 13th J&K Rifles which are looking after the area.
The public function held at Singngat Public ground from around 10 am was graced by Brig RK Sharma and A Ibocha Singh, DC/CCpur as chief guest and functional president respectively.
Reports received here said that most of the district level officials in Churachandpur took part in the program along with about 2000 people, coming from Singngat and about 15 other outlying villages.
The day started with a medical camp at Singngat Govt high school from around 8 am.
Five civilian doctors and one from the army gave free medical treatment to about 1000 persons, it said.
Cultural program was also organized.
In his speech, Brig RK Sharma asked for full cooperation from the public in the army's ongoing operations and said that the army's aim is to help restore normalcy and civil administration and help the civilians live normal lives.
He said that an army recruitment center would soon be set up in Churachandpur to cater to the youths who aspire to enter the armed forces.
In order to ease the problems of hundreds of ex-servicemen here who are presently getting their rations from Leimakhong, a separate canteen would be set up in Churachandpur too, he promised.
He also took note of the pitiable road conditions in the area which gravely hamper movement for the army and civilians alike, and said that the army is going to put up the problem to higher authorities for early action.
The DC Ccpur A Ibocha Singh in his speech urged the people to look upon the army as friends and not as enemies.
The DC later held a meeting with about 30 village Chiefs from the area and discuss various development issues.
