The Business Advisory Committee of the State Assembly is scheduled to meet on December 9 at 11 am in connection with the Winter session of the Assembly scheduled to begin from December 17.The State Assembly Secretariat has issued a notification in this connection today.
The meeting to be presided by Speaker TN Haokip at his office chamber will discuss the number of days that would be required for holding -the Assembly session and the Bills likely to be tabled from the side of the Government.
The meeting to be attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who is also the leader of the House and leaders of the Opposition would also discuss filling up of the post of Deputy Speaker of the House which is presently lying vacant.
It may be noted here that the post of the Deputy Speaker has been laying vacant after ex-Deputy Speaker L Lala resigned from the post on July 8 last.
Lala's resignation came following difference of opinion with Speaker TN Haokip and under great pressure from Minister Ngamthang who felt the Deputy Speaker should resign as part of the Ministry downsizing exercise.
According to press sources, CPI, a partner of the ruling SPF Government would not stake a claim on the post of the Deputy Speaker.
CPI party would have no objection if the post has been filled up from among the Congress Legislatures, an important functionary of the party said.
Sources from the side of CLP disclosed that lobby ing for the post has been started by the MLAs.
But the post is likely to be given to either Dr S Budhachandra, who was elected from Konthoujam Assembly during the recent by-election or to MLA N Biren, sources added.
The boycott of Speaker by the Opposition and refrain-ins: from participating in the General Discussion and Business Advisory Committee meeting as witnessed in the earlier two sessions which marred the procedding the Assembly would not be repeated this time, said another source.
