ATDUM announced a 72 hours hill districts bandh

The All Tribal Disables' Union, Manipur (ATDUM) has announced a 72 hours hill districts bandh beginning from midnight of February 17 against the State Government's failure to give any positive respond to the demands of ATDUM pertaining to the welfare of disabled persons.
The ATDUM decision was reached at a general council convention of ATDUM held on Feb 4, said a statement issued by the union today.
Amongst others, the ATDUM demands included setting up of special school with hostel facility at a tribal district as per provision under Disabilities Act, 1995; setting up of special vocational training centre with hostel facility for tribal physically challenged persons; decentralisation in issuing disability certificate; appointment of ST handicapped candidates as graduate teachers under RMSA and special relaxation of eligibility criteria including fee exemption and separate centres for physically challenged candidates in TET exams.
The other demands included appointment of State Chanelising Agency of National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation (NHFDC); enhancement of disability scholarship, unemployment allowance, financial assistance and conveyance allowance of disabled Govt employees and appointment of Disability Commissioner.
