The All Manipur Muslim (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association (AMPWA) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging to open an office of the Passbook Seva Kendra at Imphal.
Later speaking to media persons at the Babupara residence of retired IAS Helim Choudhury, AMPWA secretary general Md Akhtar Hussain said that there are 37 Passbook Seva Kendra offices across the country but for the North East there is only one regional office at Guwahati.
This has been causing serious difficulties to the Muslim community of Manipur for more than 400 people have been going on Haj pilgrimage every year.
In addition, students who wish to study or work abroad, people who medical care in foreign countries and whose relatives have settled abroad have been facing lot of inconveniences due to absence of a passport office at Imphal.
It is now necessary to open an Passport Seva Kendra office at Imphal, said Akhtar Hussain.
