Imphal, December 24 2021:
In the wake of the spread of Omicron variant of coronavirus across the world including India, the Directorate of Health Services has been monitoring the entry of international passengers into the state.
According to a statement issued by Health director Dr K Rajo, a total of 462 international travellers with Manipur as final destination are under surveillance by the health officials.
All were tested by RT PCR on the 8th day of their arrival in India.
Out of the 462 international arrivals, 155 have completed their 14 days of surveillance with all testing negative.
Of the remaining 307 under surveillance, 194 were tested on the 8th day with RT PCR and four tested positive.
They are asymptomatic and are now in a government hospital.
Three of the four samples sent for whole genome sequencing at IBSD, Takyelpat, have returned negative for Omicron variant while the result of one is awaited.
The remaining 113 who are under surveillance for less than 8 days will also be subjected to Rt PCR testing and necessary genome sequencing, if found positive, the director said.
"As the Omicron variant is spreading fast in various countries, all are advised to adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour and wear masks mandatorily.
Masks have been found effective against all variants of Covid-19," he added.
