Imphal, May 05 2015 :
No class is conducted in Wangkhei High School now due to the fear of possible sudden collapse of walls as the school building had developed cracks after the earthquake of April 25 that killed thousands of people in Nepal.
In a statement, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) said that no student and teacher dare to sit inside the classrooms of the Government model school of Imphal East.
Saying that DESAM has been putting in effort to academically revive Government schools since its inception, the statement said that the State Government established a model school each in all the districts understanding the sentiments of the student's body and public.
However, conditions of these schools are not satisfactory at all, the statement said and added that most of these model schools neither have proper drinking water and toilets nor adequate teaching equipment.
If the situation continues, these schools would never be able to win the confidence of parents and general public, the statement said.
Saying that Education Department officials are sitting with folded hands and doing nothing, the statement said that long and elaborate speeches of the Education Minister would not bring any progress if his tall promises are not translated into action.
The student's body while urging the officials and Minister to work with dedication in a transparent and accountable manner urged them not to lose the confidence of the public.
The student's body said that they would not remain silent if the Government fails to take up immediate steps to resume classes at Wangkhei High School.
