ADC Polls : Filing of nomination papers ends today for June 1 polls

Filling of the nomination papers for the election of 144 Autonomous District Council (ADC) representatives in the five hill districts will end on Wednesday.
Several party candidates and independents filed their nomination papers on Tuesday.
Official sources said that more candidates including independents are likely to file their nomination papers on the last day.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers shall be done on Thursday.
The candidates could withdraw their nomination papers by May 11.The elections shall be held in the necessary constituencies on June 1.Officials said that a control room is opened to deal with the election related issues.
The scrutiny of the six constituencies in Senapati district shall be held on Thursday in the office of the sub divisional commissioner at Paomata.
The candidates and their authorised representatives could be present there.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has reportedly stated that in view of the threat by the NSCN (IM), the Congress could not field candidates in all the constituencies in Senapati and Tamenglong districts.
It is not explained why majority of the Congress candidates in these two districts do not face the threat.
It is not known why a very small number of aspirants are facing the threat.
Besides it does not bode well for the BJP which is frantically trying to open an account this time that some members have levelled corruption charges while allotting tickets.
218 file nominations till Tuesday
So far, a total of 218 intending candidates filed nomination papers for the ensuing Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls.
Officials said 52 from Sadar Hills, 44 from Tamenglong district, 52 from Chandel district, 32 from Churachandpur district, 11 from Senapati district and two from Ukhrul district have filed nominations till Tuesday.
From Chandel, a total of 17 aspiring candidates�one each from INC and Naga People's Front (NPF) and 15 (Independent) - filed nomination papers on May 4.From Churachandpur, two Independent candidates and from Sadar Hills, one INC and three (Independent) filed nominations on the same day.
Scrutiny for the nomination papers will be done on May 7.Last date of withdrawal of nomination is May 11 and distribution of election symbols will start on May 13 .
Official sources said under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners, the official process for appointment of Presiding Officers and polling personnel has begun and polling booths for the ensuing polls are also being arranged.
