Jessami villagers procuring LPG gas from Nagaland

Imphal, October 31 2015 : Villagers in Jesami of Ukhrul town has been buying gas cylinders from neighbouring Nagaland after scarcity of LPG haunts the border town.

These villagers cannot get the cooking gas either from Ukhrul District Headquarters or from Imphal.

Even if LPGs are available, the villagers cannot afford to buy them since the price was too high compared to the ones which could be procured from Nagaland.

These villagers can get a full cylinder with only Rs 1200 from Nagaland.

One aged old Jessami villager also told Hueiyen Lanpao that Jessami owns only one Primary Health Centre (PHC) which employs two doctors and a nurse.

People visit the PHC for minor treatments but goes to Dimapur through Kohima for major medical treatments, said the villager.

"It is around 115 km far from Jesami to Ukhrul.

But due to bad condition of the road, bus services stopped and at present one DI Tata and two Tata Sumos are pressed into service from Jessami to Ukhrul with a fare of Rs 250 per person.

If a person goes by vehicle from Jesami at 5 am, he reaches Ukhrul at 9 am and the same person reaches Imphal at around 12 noon, said the villager and added that villagers has been facing difficulties due to the absence of better passenger services.

These villagers use four or five kilometer long pipe to get water stored in the reservoir located inside the village from gorges in higher altitude.

He further added that Nagaland State Transport Bus and Tata Sumos have started plying to Jessami.

A women villager, who owns a shop at the village, said the biggest problem Jessami villagers have been facing is that they have to go to Dimapur instead of Imphal whenever a villager falls sick since visiting Dimapur has become easier for them.

She also appealed the State Government to upgrade the Ukhrul District Hospital so that these villagers avoid visiting Dimapur for their treatments.
