Senapati, October 31 2015 :
Signalling that it will go ahead with the proposed 10 days economic blockade starting from 2nd November midnight, the United Naga Council (UNC) has issued a fresh statement informing that it would enforce the said blockade through tribal bodies.
According to UNC president Gaidon Kamei, the UNC through the collaboration of Tribe Hohos and apex bodies in respective districts will strictly monitor movements of all commercial trucks ferrying essential goods into Manipur on NH-2 and NH-37 along Imphal-Jiribam route.
However, the UNC chief informed that all vehicles carrying life saving materials and medical oxygen will be exempted from the preview of the 10 days economic blockade.
It warned that, it will intensify the democratic agitation more vigorously if the Central Government fails to react positively and urgently into the present situation of Manipur.
It is high time the GoI intervenes into the present unrest and consider the plight of the tribals of Manipur who are being ruthlessly suppressed and discriminated by the communal and anti-tribal Manipur State Government.
The UNC President also warned that, anyone attempting to defy the said bandh will be seriously dealt with and that, the Nagas will not be responsible for any consequences.
All apex district bodies and tribe Hohos have been directed to impose the said bandh effectively in their respective jurisdiction, it said.
It noted that, the Government of India should intervene urgently into the present social and political turmoil in Manipur which unfolded after the passing of the "three infamous anti-tribal bills in Manipur Assembly on 31st August, 2015" which subsequently led to the killing of nine innocent lives at CCpur by State forces.
It may be recalled that, the UNC on Friday (30th October) has announced imposition of the 10 days economic blockade and ban of all National and international projects in Manipur.
The UNC stated that, "For the stoic silence over the sensitive issue on the part of the Government of India, we are compelled to take up democratic form of agitation to draw the attention of the Government of India for immediate political intervention to safeguard our inalienable rights" .
