Culture extinct in hills, but vibrant in valley: Victor Keishing

Parliamentary Secretary of Hill Area Development, Victor Keishing has observed that culture is heritage of the society.
However, such a valuable asset is almost at the verge of extinction in hilly areas while people living in valley are still preserving it vibrantly and carrying out all cultural activities as strong as ever.
Victor, who attended the inaugural function of State Level Youth Festival being organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan at Palace Compound's Lamyanba Sanglen here today, said that due to the lack of proper documentation the younger generations of people residing in the hilly regions of the state have forgotten even their folk songs, traditional rituals, social customs and practices, etc.
that are vital to understand their origin and identity.
As the future is in the hands of youths, in order to revive the lost cultural heritage of the tribal people in the hills, they should learn what culture is and study their history.
Victor exhorted the participating NYKS volunteers, by pointing out that the age of youth is an opportunity to learn and develop mental and physical fitness as well as various aspects of life.
Regardless of gender, cast, creed and region, each and every individual has a role to play in the process of nation building.
Highlighting activities of NYKS and its affiliated organizations as well as achievements, Vice Chairperson of Board of Governors, NYKS, YAS, Government of India, L Tilotama, who presided over the inaugural function, said that the organization has been working at the micro level with an objective to uplift the social status of rural people and the volunteers are being engaged in result oriented social awareness programmes like HIV awareness, health and hygiene with great success in States like Manipur and Punjab.
On the occasion, NYKS also distributed the state level outstanding youths' club award to District Pana Sagol Kangjei Association, Keirak.
