Imphal, February 18 2013 :
Giving deadline of two days time from today, All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union (AMMGSU) has threatened to close down Nirmalabas High School if the school authority sticks to its decision of not reserving 4 percent seats for Muslims students in the school as prescribed by the Government of Manipur.
Addressing media persons in this regard, Ruksar Chaudhuri, President of AMMGSU, stated that the Government of Manipur has been reserving 4 percent seats for Muslim minorities for admission to educational institutions.
The admission to all the Catholic schools run by Christian missionaries including Nirmalabas High School has been done through lottery system and the session began from today.
Though the state government provides 4 percent reservation to Muslim students, the authorities of Nirmalabas High School has denied the said reservation, although all other Catholic schools run by Christian missionaries are reserving seats for the Muslims, Ruksar said.
She informed that when the school authority was approached in this regard, they maintained that the admission process has already been completed and the remaining seats reserved for the Christian minorities and not for Muslim minorities.
The organization only demands the rights of the Muslim minorities and nothing more than that.
So if the authorities of Nirmalabas do not reserved seats for the Muslim students by February 20, AMMGSU would be compelled to close down the said institution indefinitely, Ruksar announced.
She also appealed to the parents of the students studying in the institute not to send their children to the school until the matter is solved amicably.
