Imphal, February 18 2013 :
The JAC formed against the "inhuman" torture of a minor girl at Ukhrul has demanded arrest of the main culprits namely Jim Horam, s/o N Horam of Kachai village under Ukhrul district and his mother Edah Horam and to dismiss them from their respective government services.
After the father of the 9-year old girl victim died and her mother married another person, N Horam took the girl from her mother and brought to their house in 2010 with the assurance to adopt and take care of her.
However, accusing the minor girl of stealing mobile phone, gold and watches, Jim Horam and Edah Horam tortured the poor girl in the most inhumane manner, and even threaten to kill her, one of the JAC members told Hueiyen Lanpao.
In connection with the incident, social organizations like District Women Committee, Naga People's Movement for Human Right, Ukhrul District Alliance for Child Right, Sustainable Livelihood Forum, UDNAH, AGRIPROMCO Ltd, ELSHADAI, Guwahati Student Union, Volunteer for Village Development and Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long formed the JAC and served an ultimatum for arresting the culprits within five days.
In addition to this, a case had been filed with Ukhrul district police, who subsequently arrested N Horam, though the other two main accused remained absconding.
N Horam has been granted bail but the police have not been able to the mother-son duo till date.
If the police failed to arrest Edah Horam who works as an assistant in Ukhrul ADC and Jim Horam as a teacher should be dismissed from their respective services.
Otherwise, the JAC would launch intense agitations, the member warned.
