MCPCR celebrates its 1st Foundation Day

The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) celebrated its first foundation day at the conference hall of Directorate of Social Welfare Department, North AOC here today.
The function was attended by Basumitra, Principal Secretary of Social Welfare Department as Chief Guest; A Nabachandra, Chairperson of MCPCR as President and L Ibobi, Director of Social Welfare Department as Guest of Honour.
Speaking at the function, L Ibobi pointed out that there were many instances of torturing of children in the State in the past few years but there were no places where one could complaint over such incidents.
But with the coming up of Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), such incidents have been reduced.
He further said the Social Welfare Department used to take up initiatives mainly for child health issue in earlier years but the department has now come up with a string of measures to protect children against unwarranted threats other than the health issue.
Stating that the Integrated Child Protection Scheme under the Juvenile Justice Act had been also implemented in the State from 2006, he informed that the scheme was initiated by the Central Government to protect child from torturing, trafficking and other potential threats and that the State Government will appoint the required staffs and give posting in all the districts of the State at the earliest to ensure that the scheme is effectively implemented.
