ATSUM (T) stir stalls railway work

On account of the renewed agitation launched by ATSUM (T) under the code name Reckoning of Other (ROTO), railway line construction work between Jiribam and Tupul (Marangching) has been put on hold.
ATSUM (T) launched its second phase of agitation in the form of banning national projects in the State with effect from last midnight.
Speaking to media persons at their Nagaram office this afternoon, ATSUM speaker Majabung Gangmei said that different sorts of agitation would be launched in the five hill districts of Manipur in case the State Government does not pay attention to the ongoing agitation of banning national projects.
He maintained that all their demands were genuine and legitimate.
ATSUM has been urging the State Government to fulfil a charter demands which includes appointment of adequate teachers and staff for schools located in hill districts, development of necessary infrastructure, solving the problem of inadequate infrastructure in IGNTU, Imphal Regional Centre, establishment of BEd centres in hill districts etc.
In addition, ATSUM has been demanding posting of required strength of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff as well as adequate of provision of equipment for CHCs, PHCs and PHSCs located in hill districts.
Establishment of separate commission of scheduled tribes, implementation of scheduled tribe reservation policy in accordance to the latest roster, provision of special economic package for hill districts, acknowledgement of tribal people's rights over land and natural resources are some other demands of ATSUM and all these demands have been already highlighted to the Government, Majabung said.
The first phase of ROTO agitation was suspended for some time on the assurance of the State Government made on June 12 this year that the major demands would be translated into action after they were deliberated during monsoon session of the State Assembly, Majabung added.
