'Energy conservation can solve power crisis'

The looming power crisis in the State can be solved only if people have substantial knowledge on energy conservation and put it into practice in their day-to-day life, Additional Chief Engineer of Power Department L Priyokumar has said today.
He was speaking as Guest of Honour of the prize distribution ceremony of state level painting competition on energy conservation held at Hotel Imphal here today.
Priyokumar further said that people must use energy-efficient bulbs and other home appliances.
They must understand that CFLs and LEDs are cost-effective and more energy-efficient than the tungsten filament bulbs.
Moreover, judicious use of power must be done by all.
The power consumption would come down obviously and the power crisis can be solved only by adopting energy conservation, he noted.
All necessary steps would be taken up in due course of time to augment power supply in the State, the Additional Chief Engineer asserted.
Chief Guest of the function, Joint Secretary of Power Department R Sudhan also appealed to the people to conserve energy for resolving the power crisis.
The dignitaries of the function distributed prizes to the winners of painting competition.
In Category A, Oinam Suraj of Arong Government High School bagged the first prize while Malemnganbi of Mount Carmel School and Bobychand of Kendriya Vidyalaya bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
In Category B, Ksh Gopinath of Bhaktivedanta Institute got the first prize while S Santosh of Grace Cottage Cultural and Educational 'Development Foundation and Y Rahul of Wangkhei High School secured second and third prize respectively.
