Imphal, April 19 2013 :
With undue intervention from various MLAs in its working, Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) has not been able to appoint eight important committees leading to the complete failure in the overall functioning of the Council.
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, the eight committees which have not been able to form following undue intervention from MLAs are Committees on Works, Finance, Publicity, Sanitary, Bazaar, JNNURM, Project and Appointment.
Since these committees have not yet been able to constitute till today, the required Chairperson and members of the Committees have also not been appointed and as such this has led to the failure in overall functioning of Imphal Municipal Council.
Reports further stated that as IMC is ruled by Congress party, no confidence motion was moved against elected Councilor of Congress party N Raghumani when he was the Chairperson of IMC despite differences of opinion among the Congress Councilors.
The whole issue, however, had to be resolved after the Chief Minister and the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee intervened.
It was after the whole matter was solved that Councilor A Nimai was elected as the new Chairperson of IMC uncontested.
Reports went on to inform that even after three months of electing the new Chairperson, IMC has not been able to take up important and necessary developmental works in the heart of Imphal owing to the non-formation of the eight committees.
The developmental programmes in the seven assembly segments of Imphal which is under the jurisdiction of IMC have not been taken up till date as all these busy body MLAs have been trying to push in their own individuals as the Chairperson of these committees.
Apart from this, a number of candidates who could not get elected in General Election are lobbying at their level best to make elected Councilors of their choice for appointment to the desired post in the committee, reports added.
