Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday strongly condemned the attack on Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur and said that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
"Strongly condemn the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur.
I pay homage to those soldiers and family members who have been martyred today.
Their sacrifice will never be forgotten," PM Modi wrote on Twitter.
"My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of sadness," he said.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh also expressed anguish over convoy attack and affirmed that the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.
"The cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Churachand pur, Manipur is extremely painful and condemnable.
The nation has lost five brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members.
My condolences to the bereaved families," Rajnath said.
Manipur Governor La Ganesan also expressed deep sadness and condemnation against the attack oh Assam Rifles Convoy oaSaturday which killed 46 AR commanding officer along with his wife and son and four other Quick Reaction Team (QTR) personnel and five more sustaining injuries and three minor injuries.
In a statement, the Governor said that the dastardly attack of the criminals is strongly condemnable.
He also conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and also prayed to God for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members to bear the sorrow.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who had last week appealed to the militants to come to the negotiation table to sort out their demands, if any, said in a tweet: "Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed few personnel including the CO & his family at CCpur today.
The State forces & Para military are already on their job to track down the militants.
The perpetrators will be brought to justice".
Biren also visited one of the injured jawans and tweeted from the hospital.' Visited Shija Hospital to check up on one of the jawans who was badly injured in today's unfortunate ambush attack.
I have directed my officials and hospital authority to provide the best medical care for the jawan.
The sacrifice of our jawans will not go in vain," he wrote.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen PC Nair and many other people have strongly condemned the attack, which was perpetrated months before the next year's Assembly elections in Manipur.
Assam Rifles praised the slain officer who had previously served in Mizoram until his transfer to Manipur in July 2021."During his tenure in Mizoram, under his able and energetic leadership, the battalion has been at the forefront in Border management thwarting illegal smuggling in the IMB and hinterland.
Battalion has also recovered several weapons & war like stores which could have landed in the hands of anti-national elements thus avoiding major casualties," Assam Rifles said.
"Col Viplav, through his remarkable endeavours, bonded closely with the locals of Mizoram.
The anti-drug campaign conducted by his battalion in January 2021 received several laurels and the awareness was rightfully created by him in the entire state including the remote villages to ensure the youth are guided in the right direction," the statement said, adding his "goodwill for the society will last an eternity".
Zomi Chiefs' Association, United Zou Organisation and Zomi Council have strongly condemned the brutal attack on a convoy of 46 Assam Rifles (AR) near S Sehken village in Churachandpur district on Saturday.
In separate releases, Zomi chiefs and council said that they were shocked as such acts of terror have become a thing of past in Zomi areas, particularly after UPF and KNO signed the tripartite peace pact (SoO) with the government since 2008.Pointing out that Col Viplav Tripathi was very dear to the Zomis as he initiated Skill Development Schemes for ZRA cadres, the releases praised him as a devoted officer of the Indian army.
While urging the government to apprehend, book and penalise the culprits as per the law of the land and carry on unhindered political dialogue with SoO groups in public interest, they extended heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved family members, near and dear ones and also wished quick recovery of the injured soldiers.
