Imphal, November 13 2021:
The Hill Area Drivers' Union (HADU) has stated that the Manipur Drivers' Association accusing Noney police of assaulting truck drivers along Imphal-Jiribam road is groundless.
In a press release, HADU president Angam Pamei stated that two drivers reached Khongshang in a drunken state in the morning.
The duo were heading from Jiribam to Imphal, according to the statement.
Claiming that one of the drunk drivers used vulgar words against a group of women operating a hotel at the area in Punjabi language, the HADU stated that some drivers in the hotel intervened to stop the alleged teasing as they were aware of the foul language.
The driver was hurt in the toe in the argument, it said and added that the HADU members immediately took the 'drunken' driver to their office.
Saying that the driver was released after giving first aid as he apologised for his behavior at around 2 pm, the HADU claimed that charges levelled by MDA is unfounded.
It also asked if MDA instigated the driver to raise ruckus in the area.
Asking on what ground the association is planning to impose a bandh on the National Highway, the HADU urged all to know the truth of the incident first.
