Imphal, November 13 2021:
Unless the government upholds the legislations in letter and spirit, and decentralises power, the government cannot bring the much needed social changes with its Go to Hills and Go to Village programmes, said senior politician ex-minister O Joy.
He was attending a felicitation function of ZP members, pradhans, ward members, GRSs and panchayat secretaries in Langthabal assembly constituency area organised by Langthabal Kendra Rural Area Development and Welfare Organisation (LKRADWO) at Kakwa Pukhri Achouba Mapal community hall on Saturday.
LKRADWO president Irom Ibotombi, Langthabal ZP member Leimajam Roshan, former ZP member Sagolshem Ronel, Oinam Thingel GP pradhan Thongam Guneshwar, Maibam Leikai GP pradhan Ngangom Kunjarani, Langthabal Mantrikhong Naorem Leikai GP pradhan Aheibam Sunanda and Hiyangthang GP pradhan Golmei Roy Kabui attended the function as the presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, O Joy said that the GTH and GTV campaigns of the Biren government are good programmes but these are nothing without decentralisation of power.
He called them as political gimmick of BJP government.
Though ZP, panchayat and Municipal Councils are responsible for ensuring proper implementation of National Food Security Act, the government is holding the authority.
Many individuals who are involved in the process of PDS distribution are buying new lands by siphoning off benefits meant for the poor people, he alleged.
He also slammed the government for its failure to release funds for rural housing scheme and MGNREGS.
Claiming that roads in-thongju and Singjamei AC are widening whereas roads in Langthabal AC are shrinking, he said that there is a disturbing trend of elected representatives eyeing to loot public money instead of serving the public.
