Longmai General Assembly resolves to save environment

The Longmai General Assembly 2018 organised by the Longmai Customary Court (Thoupei) was held today at Longmai Part-I community hall under the theme "Together we can change Longmai" .
Adai Dangmei, Chairman, Longmai Pei (Customary Court) and Kasaigai Gangmei, Chairman, Longmai Village Authority attended the Assembly as the convener and the co-convener respectively.
Dr Gaisinlung Kamei, Obed Kamei and Abuan Dangmei acted as the recording secretaries.
The Assembly discussed amendments of bye-laws, education system prevailing at Longmai, nonresidential identity and land use systems.
The Assembly resolved to stand by the order issued by the Longmai Village Administration in the beginning of the year prohibiting sale of land located within Longmai
(Noney) village to persons belonging to other communities and to female inhabitants married to other communities, and prohibition of damage to forests and landscape, flora and fauna, rivers and basins, fish and other marine species.
Further the Assembly resolved to enforce an Act which aims at protecting the flora and fauna in the village.
Under the Act, a fine of Rs10,000 plus seizure of arms for 3(three) years would be imposed against any citizen found hunting within the jurisdiction of Longmai village, and a fine of Rs 20,000 plus seizure of arms would be imposed against non-citizens/individuals from neighbouring villages.
The induviduals would be handed over to the concerned Village Customary Court for further action against them.
Strong actions would be
taken against individuals involved in illegal mode fishing and individuals found polluting river by emptying sewage through toilet/latrine outlets, dumping of garbage and litter, resolved the Assembly.
