Court convicts one for possession of Ganja

One Laishram Naocha alias Nanao Meitei (32) s/o Ibohanbi of Thamnapokpi Awang Leikai, was convicted by S Tara Devi, Special Judge, NDPS, Fast Track Court, Manipur, for illegal possession of 40 kilograms of Ganj a, apart from fixing June 7 for the sentence hearing.
The judgment was announced yesterday after it was kept reserved from May 24.The case began against L Naocha after he was arrested by a team of NAB, led by Sub Inspector S Gopendro, in front of Imphal Municipal Corporation office on June 3,2007, with two air bags containing five packets of Ganja each, weighing around 40 kilograms in total.
The IO of the case, after completion of the investigation, submitted charge sheet against the convict on September 18 last year.
After framing the charge, the trial began against the convict and during the trial, four prosecution witnesses were examined, cross examined and discharged from the case.
The argument hearing began on April 17 this year and the during the session, the Court heard Special PP M Raichand and defense counsel Advocate Indira Devi.
After considering all materials on records and hearing the submission of both parties, the Court convicted Naocha under the ND&PS Act, 1985.The Court also cancelled the bail bond of the convict.
Soon after the announcement of the judgment order, the convict was taken into custody and sent to Manipur Central Jail at Sajiwa.
The Court also directed the SP of Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa to produce the convict before the Court on June 7 for the sentence hearing.
