Integrated Tribal Development Programme launched at Shajouba, 200 families to benefit

Integrated Tribal Development Programme (ITDP), funded by NABARD was launched at Shajouba by Dr KJ Satyasai, General Manager, NABARD, Manipur.
Thokchom Kiran, DDM NABARD/Senapati, M S Jerome, Managing Director, ACCORDS, Line Department officials, Village Authority members of Kaibi, Makhel, Shajouba and Tadubi, SHG leaders and Project beneficiaries were present in the inaugural function.
The programme will cover 200 families in four villages of Shajouba, Kaibi, Makhel and Tadubi while most of the selected beneficiaries are women SHG members and farmer's club.
The program will convert 200 acres of jhum land into Kiwi and Mosambi orchards and promote sustainable livelihoods in rural villages of Senapati district.
The project is financed by NABARD under Tribal Development Fund (TDF) and is being implemented by ACCORDS/NGO.
Speaking at the launching programme as the chief guest, Dr KJ Satyasai congratulated the communities for their support and cooperation and exhorted them to reap the benefits of the programme.
Kiwi and Mosambi fruits are tasty, nutritious and have high market value, he said adding that NABARD programme has been successful in the country.
He expressed confidence in the project while maintaining that it will generate maximum benefits to poor households in the area.
Thokchom Kiran, DDM NABARD briefed the communities on the importance of the programme and exhorted the beneficiaries to diligently implement it.
During technical session, NG Ngourai, AAO, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, spoke on "Prospect of Kiwi and Mosambi plantation in Senapati" while Homen Singh, Farm Manager, KVK, Hengbung spoke on "Farm Management and Best Practices" and Rajkumar Sadananda Singh, Forest Beat Officer, Beat Office, Tadubi talked about "Forestry and Bio-Diversity Conservation" .
The chief guest gave away planting materials and barbed wires to the beneficiaries as part of the function.
ACCORDS will monitor and assist the communities for six years including sourcing potential markets.
