36th State Basketball Championship : YPHU romp past Model Club to set up final date with ESU

YPHU, Lalambung made an all out attack to thump Model Club, Chingamakha by 69-35 points and set up boys title clash tomorrow with ESU, Palace Compound who outlasted Bolero, Sangai Chuthek by 53-22 points today in another semi-final encounter, at the 36th State Sub-Junior Basketball Championship being organised under the aegis of Manipur Basketball Association at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
In the first semi-final match of the boys competition held today, ESU showed their superiority right from the beginning to ease to a 53-22 win.
ESU led the first quarter 15-6 points and eased to a 12-05 lead in the second quarter.
Bolero made a good fightback in the third quarter to have a 11-10 lead but failed to open their account in the last quarter as ESU piled up 16 points with most of the score coming from Th Newton to finish the game 53-22.Th Newton was pick of the ESU players as he managed 9 points alone while GA Kriparaj, M Telheiba and Thuingonpou shared 8 points each to help their team post a big win today.
L Thesis, H Rishikanta and Moidiling also fetched 4 points each for ESU and K Amaximus and H Nikish managed 2 points each.
Bolero's Tholngamchan K made the highest 9 points for the team and Th Neutich and Asher P got 6 points each.
RK Luchingba also managed a point for the team in this match.
Meanwhile in the second semi-final match, Both YPHU and Model Club started on a positive note and it was 12-11 in favour of YPHU in the first quarter.
The Lalambung side however made a sudden surge in the second period to enjoy a 24-08 lead before leading the last two quarters 13-4, 20-12 en route to their 69-35 landslide triumph.
Krishnachary of YPHU was in prolific form today as he scored 32 points alone in the 69-35 win and L Rahul followed suit to rack up another 23 points for the team.
Needson, Lanchenba and Paikhomba also added 7, 5 and 2 points respectively for YPHU to make it a total of 69 points.
M Mahesh topscored with 13 points for the losing side while H Lamyanba and Th Badal scored 11 and 7 points respectively.
M Thoiba and W Harry added 2 points each in a losing cause.
Final match will begin at 4.30 pm tomorrow.
