Mass suffering by cough and fever has been found among the villagers at Keibi and its surrounding areas which villagers believed caused by dirty water of the Iril rivers colliding with high heat wave in the last few days in the state.
Owing to non-availability of the safe drinking water, the raw water of the Iril river which is also badly unclean are using by the villagers for all purpose as they have no other sources of water.
They water fetch from the river were allowed to settle down in the containers using alum for drinking purpose.
They have no other means to purify the water except boiling it.
On the other hand it has been usual and long practice of the villagers to drop waste materials including human waste to the river.
Villagers also used to wash cloths and bathing in the river which add in making the water dirty.
The water supply scheme at Keibi Awang Leikai, which could supply 4000 galleon of water per day which has been taking up by the state government, is targeting to supply safe drinking water to the villages of Keibi, Heikumapal, Taretkhun, Keibi Kumuda, Lamboikhun and Tiger camp etc.
But due to irregular power supply condition, villagers could not avail the benefits of the rural water supply scheme.
