Pukhrambam Kajao who killed a British political agent with spear was remembered today on his 119 death anniversary with a observation function held at Kangbong.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, MLA RK Anand said the spirits of the forefathers who had fought with the British despite knowing that they will suffer loss in the wars with the mighty British emperor should be posses to the people of present generation.
He further said that the killing of British political agent is true on the political point of view because Kajao's deed expressed strong protest against British killing innocent people and atrocities to the people of the state particularly toward the women and children.
He used his spirit of love for motherland and courage correctly.
Today's generation need to be posses such spirit.
Anand further said now the people of the state much know how people coming from other state are keeping their view to them and it is a must to fight together with the challenges ahead of the people unitedly.
Former Union minister, Th Chaoba who presided the function recalled the arrival British to the gathering and said the then princely state of Manipur was put under their control lately after most of the princely states of India have been taken over.
Most of the princely states surrendered to the British without fighting wars.
Though little in number, Manipuri warriors fight with the mighty British warriors, Kajao had killed the British political agent as avenge for killing Manipuris by them.
He also expressed his willingness to observe the dead anniversary of Kajao as state function.
MLA I Ibohalbi who attended the function as guest of honour said that the need for observing that whether the people of today's generation are still possessing the courage and spirits possessed by forefathers.
Participants in the observation function offered rich floral tributes to the portrait of the Pukhrambam Kajao.
On the occasion prizes given to the first division and second division holder students in the recently declared HSSLC exam were also distributed.
