Imphal, May 25 2009:
The Cabinet of the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government is likely to witness a head roll after the formation of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.
A highly reliable source in the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said that three ministers of the SPF government here are likely to be replaced after the formation of the UPA government at the centre.
The decision comes after the MPCC President Gaikhangam and CM O Ibobi who went to Delhi to attend the swearing in ceremony of Dr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister of India for the second consecutive term few days back meeting the AICC leaders, the source disclosed.
The move is said to have been initiated by the AICC so as to offer other Congress MLAs of the state the chance as ministers after completing an inning of seven years in power.
However, the source further divulged that the MPCC President Gaikhangam and CM Ibobi will decide the replacement of the ministers.
The move will not cause any dissension among the Congress MLAs, the source asserts.
Though it did not want to reveal the replacements, the source firmly believed that one of the replacements will be the Congress partner in SPF, the CPI Minister Ph Parijat while also indicating that a veteran Congressman and prominent MPCC leader could be inducted in the reorganised SPF cabinet.
Meanwhile, the source also ruled out the possibility of convening a SPF Steering Committee meeting that was pressed by the CPI.
It said that the Congress is not pleased over the act of the party without consulting the Congress before the Lok Sabha election.
Though the Congress and the CPI have formed a government together even after the Left withdrawn its support to the Congress over the Nuclear Deal at the Centre last year, the 15th Lok Sabha had became an end to the association, the source categorically said adding that the AICC has also given its approval for the end of the partnership.
