Imphal, October 10 2013 :
Maichou Ningshing Lup has called for protecting the sanctity of Kangla.
In a statement, Secretary of the Lup Ahanthem Irabot Meetei said that Kangla, which is situated in the heart of Imphal, is a holy of the holiest places for the indigenous people like the Vrindaban for the Hindus, the Mecca for the Muslims and the Jerusalem for the Christians.
But the present Government of Manipur sees 'Kangla' as just a fort.
Even if it matters nothing, many forts like the Red Fort in Delhi and the Agra Fort in UP are being regarded and respected by everyone including the President of India.
On the contrary, Kangla is used by the Chief Minister and the Governor of Manipur as a way for crosscut.
Moreover, as if there is no alternative way to earn income, Superintendent of State Archaeology issues permission on payment for walk inside Kangla in the morning and evening.
It is very unfortunate that there are many leaders including members of State Legislative Assembly and veteran Parliamentarians who are going for walk inside Kangla instead of saving and protecting the sanctity of the sacred site, Irabot lamented.
Irabot urged the Government of Manipur to respect Kangla like other forts in the country or abroad.
