Imphal, October 10 2013 :
The Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) Manipur has endorsed the steps taken by ZSU and ZYF Tamenglong zone in pressurising the Govt to resume power supply in Tamenglong district.
Pointing out that Tamenglong has been without power for the last three month, a statement issued by ZB Manipur said that the power failure has immense effect on the performance of thousands of students who are preparing for their
final exams.
Pointing out that most of the offices and commercial establishments come to a standstill due to power supply failure, the ZBM said this shows the 'entrenched form of discrimination against hill communities is still applied by the Govt' .
It also decried the alleged pitiable road constructions in Tamenglong district particularly Tamenglong-Khongsang road, IT Road, Old Cachar road, Tamenglong-Tousem road, etc.
The statement added that the charge of NH-37 construction should be handed over to reliable agency other than the State PWD, which has a track record of corruptions and laxity.
The ZB further registered its strong objection to setting up of Imphal East police outpost at Tatbung (Leingangpokpi) in Tamenglong district.
It pledged that the ZBM and the people of Tamenglong would not remain a silent spectator and avowed to take up strong democratic forms of agitation against the Govt for creating unnecessary heckles while strongly urging the authority concerned to withdraw the police outpost.
Conveying its opposition to the proposal for creation of Barak circle subdivision, the ZBM statement said it was the sinister design of some vested groups to create more confusion.
It also opposed the move for the creation of Jiribam district by carving out some areas of Tamenglong district.
"Not even an inch of ancestral land of Tamenglong should be ceded to Jiribam subdivision," it stated.
Urging the concerned authority not to provoke the sentiments of the peace loving people to resort to severe form of agitation, the ZBM said it is not the best interest of the Zeliangrong apex body to endorse the bandhs but circumstances force them to resort to such agitation to draw the attention of the concerned authority.
It said development activities should not only confine in the valley if the State Govt thinks about equal development of hill and valley adding that the minimal availability of basic goods and services make the people deprived of everything.
