Political parties to assess border fencing work

An all political party team would be visiting Moreh to take a first hand account of the ongoing boundary fencing work, a project whose completion would mean loss of substantial area of Manipur's territory to neighbouring Myanmar.
The boundary fencing issue was reportedly discussed in detail at a special meeting presided by the Chief Minister which was held today at the CM's conference hall.
Apart from Congress representatives, leaders of State unit BJP, CPI-M, All India Forward Bloc, CPI, BSP, LJP, NCP, JD (S), Trinamool Congress, JD (U), Shiv Sena, NPF, MPP and MSCP attended the meeting that lasted over three hours.
Speaking to newspersons after the meeting at his Old Secretariat office, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam conveyed that today's meeting was especially convened taking into account apprehension from all sections of the society as well as political organisations that the boundary fencing would eventually shrink Manipur's territory.

Informing that a decision was taken to form a 33-member all political party team, the Deputy CM said the joint team would take stock of the prevailing situation on october 22 .
Expressing that the visit is aimed at extending unity and solidarity with people settled in the border areas and that he would be heading the visiting team, Gaikhangam also stated that the joint team would depart for Moreh from 1st Bn Manipur Rifles campus at 7 am of october 22 and return the same day after inspecting the boundary fencing works.
Inspite of the international boundary fencing issue being a prerogative of the Central Government the joint team would be assessing the situation as it concerns imminent loss of Manipur's territory, he said adding that the all party team would also meet the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, External Affairs Minister, Survey General of india and national leaders of various political parties to urge for initiating necessary measures.
In connection with the upcoming meeting with central leaders and handing over memorandum to them a memorandum drafting committee with Congress MLA RK Anand as the convenor and representatives of all the political parties as its members has also been formed, confided the Deputy CM.
Clarifying that picture of Manipur's boundary depicted in the google map is incorrect, Gaikhangam maintained that the joint team will also prevail upon national leaders to intimate google network authorities to rectify the erroneous map of Manipur.
