TG Rape Case:: Final hearing put off till October 26

Much to the disappointment of a large number of womenfolk who gathered at the court complex of District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East here today to hear the pronouncement of judgment, the final hearing on the rape case of a student then studying in class XII in TG Higher Secondary School by two men, has been put off till October 26 .
The final hearing on the case was supposed to be concluded but the court postponed it, fixing another date for the agreement hearing on October 26 .
Unhappiness over the development, the womenfolk became agitated and attacked the two accused rapists identified as Thongam Tarun (27) s/o of Thongam Jayenta of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, Imphal West district, who is an actor cum singer of Manipuri digital film, and Yumnam William (28) s/o late Yumnam Devan of Khagempalli Pankha Leikai, Imphal West, a personnel of Imphal West district police but now suspended, while the duo was coming out of the court with stones and sandals.
The agitated womenfolk also shouted slogans against the judge for delaying pronouncement of the verdict.
In view of the charged atmosphere, the two accused rapists were forced to remain inside the courtroom for quite some time before police could escort them safely to the waiting prison van and sped off from the court complex.
Tarun and William, both said to be close friends, allegedly drugged and raped the girl, who was then studying in class 12 in TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal, in a restaurant located along Tiddim road near Imphal Airport on October 20, 2012. The victim is a resident of Kongpal Konkham Leikai, Imphal East.
The trial on the rape case commenced from February 25 last after the police filed the charge-sheet against the accused duo, who are currently lodged in Central Sajiwa Jail at Khabeisoi.
