Incentives to colleges

Education Minister M Okendro distributed financial incentives to the authorities of different Government and private colleges for the purchase of books for library and science equipments in a function held at SSA conference hall, Babupara today.
The Minister was the chief guest of the function, organized by the Directorate of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur.
Commissioner and Secretary of Higher and Technical Education and SCERT P Vaiphei, Higher Education Director C Arthur W and Additional Director RK Yaiskul were present at the function as dignitaries.
Altogether Rs 1.37 crore were distributed to the Principals and representatives of 28 Govt colleges, 29 private colleges and five Non-Government (aided) colleges for the financial year 2014-15.Today's distribution was the third instance wherein financial assistance was directly handed over to the authorities of different colleges for the procurement of books and science equipments.
Speaking at the function, M Okendro said that people have now started trusting the new and improved education system of the State, which does not provide any room for using unfair means in all the examinations.
In fact, the education system of the State has now come to the right track due to the concerted efforts of teachers, Principals, parents and administrators, he added.
The Minister said, "Two more universities are coming up in the State soon - one would be a private university while the other would be a Government varsity" .
He said that the system of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, which is still in practice in higher education, should have been stopped a long time back as it has brought serious ambiguities.
Collective efforts must be put in to find the mistakes in order to bring quality education, he added.
The Minister further said that the State Government is communicating with the Union Ministry of External Affairs to admit students from Myanmar in the educational institutes of Manipur.
Regarding the issue of left out CBSE students, the Minister said that the fact finding committee set up by the State Government in its report mentioned that only 435 students could produce the relevant documents to claim themselves as genuine students of the schools affiliated to CBSE, Okendro added.
As a one-time measure to save the academic year of these students, a special examination is likely to be arranged after the matter is discussed in the State Cabinet, he said.
A new system would be activated soon wherein only two CBSE affiliated schools besides Kendra Vidyalayas and other Central Government schools are allowed to run in a district, he said and added that the Govt would also check whether CBSE affiliated schools follow the rules and guidelines of CBSE properly.
