Governor okays Sangai International University Manipur Bill, 2014

The Governor has given his assent to the Sangai International University Manipur Bill, 2014, Education Minister M Okendro has said on Friday.
The minister announced this at a function at his official quarters in Babupara, during which he distributed money for purchasing books and science equipments for private Government and added colleges.
"The State Government is giving special impetus to the education sector," Okendro stated at the event hosted by the Directorate of University & Higher Education.
Okendro who was the chief guest on the occasion further said plans are afoot to establish two more educational universities in the State to address the problem faced by a large number of students after college.
"The Governor has given his assent to the Sangai International University ManipurBill.
The Government will soon start preparing groundwork for the projected Sangai varsity," the minister further said.
The minister informed that the Government of India is planning to formulate a fresh education policy for the country and emphasized the importance of proposing the Centre to insert certain imperatives in the proposed policy to suit the North East.
He also informed that a meeting of all Education Ministers of North East States is being held in Imphal soon to discuss the yet to be devised new education policy of the country.
Okendro added that the State Government is trying to consult the Ministry of External Affairs on allowing Myanmar students to pursue study in educational institutes in Manipur.
Higher Education Commissioner P Vaiphei and Higher Education Director C Arthur attended the event as president and guest of honour.
The minister distributed Rs 17 lakh through cheques to 29 private colleges, Rs 60 lakh to Government colleges and Rs lakh 6 to five added-colleges.
