Women vendors' protest non functioning of Rest House

Imphal, June 28 2015 :
Women vendor group Ima Panthoibi street vendor union had appealed to the State government to construct the proposed women market opposite Inter State Bus Terminus, Khuman Lampak.
In a sit in protest on Sunday, the women vendors said that the construction work for the proposed women market is yet to start even after the first instalment for construction works was sanctioned by the North East Council as reported in the local newspapers.
Y Indrani advisor to the street vendor group taking part in the sit in protest stated that the women vendors have suffered a lot selling their items on the streets under the rain and the sun.
Drawing attention of the government the street vendor group also appeal to make the night centre functional.
They also appeal not to hand over the construction works in the hands of private firms.
Addressing the problems faced by the labours coming from far places the women vendor group appeal to the elected representatives to discuss the matter on making the two night centres inaugurated by the then labour minister functional.
Around 70 women street vendors took part in the sit in protests.
