Imphal, June 28 2015 :
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba has stated that the State Government has been seemingly delaying formation of Autonomous District Councils.
Briefing media persons here today on his return from week-long trip to Delhi where he met BJP central leaders/Union Ministers, Chaoba pointed out that the election notification for the ADC election clearly laid down that the whole election process would be completed by June 17 .
But the inordinate delay in forming the duly elected ADCs has created a sense of confusion and suspicion among the masses.
A nine-member delegation of BJP Manipur Pradesh led by Th Chaoba called on BJP president Amit Shah and general secretary (North East in-charge) Ram Madhav at Delhi and apprised them about the prevailing political situation of Manipur.
Formation of new ADCs and the impending by-election to three Assembly segments also figured prominently during the meeting, Chaoba conveyed.
He claimed that BJP central leaders have endorsed the State unit's decision not to ally with any other political party in order to ADCs in the State.
The meetings also discussed about a fool-proof poll strategy so that BJP wins all the three Assembly seats where by-election is due.
Clarifying media reports about coalition between NPF and BJP in order to form ADCs in Tamenglong and Chandel, Chaoba stated that the Anti-Defection Law does not encompass ADC Members and elected Members may join any party of his/her choice.
Nonetheless, their parent parties may take up disciplinary action as deemed fit.
NPF has not sent any official letter so far on forging a coalition with BJP, Chaoba stated.
It appears that there is a hidden motive behind the State Government's inordinate delay in inviting elected Members to form new ADCs.
The BJP delegation also held meetings with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar.
Primary agenda of these meetings were development and law and order situation of Manipur.
Regarding the Dzuko Valley stand-off between Nagaland and Manipur, the Ministry of Home Affairs has not been informed by either of the two States, Chaoba conveyed as stated by the Union Home Minister.
As suggested by Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, BJP Manipur Pradesh would organise a workshop, possible in the month of August, to explore the most effective means of releasing funds for the most backward districts.
The delegation also met Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Secretary Vijay Chhiber and urged him to make the proposed Imphal ring road a four lane road.
They further proposed upgrading Jiri-Tipaimukh road, also known as Mon Bahadur Road, to the status of a National Highway.
Major portions of the Tupul-Imphal railway line would comprise of tunnels and these tunnels would be constructed in such a manner that they can be used as roads, Chaoba conveyed as assured by V Chhiber.
