Imphal, June 28 2015 :
All India Trade Union Congress in its national meet at the Trade Centre Patiala, Punjab announced to call a nationwide general strike on September 2, 2015 .
When Hueiyen Lanpao contacted Moirangthem Nara vice president of AITUC said that the national meet took the resolution as the NDA government headed by Narendra Modi is trying to replace the existing labour law with a new one.
The trend of hiring labour on contractual basis instead of regularisation and firing anytime at the whim of the employer is not a welcome approach, said Nara.
He also said that AITUC was formed in 1920 to protect the labour from harassment by British and to make laws.
The movement for formation of AITUC was headed by Lala Lajpat Rai the freedom fighter.
Nara further alleged that the present NDA government is trying to act in favour of the big corporate house and subjugate the labourers by doing away the existing labour laws in the country.
He also informed that the central government had started introducing its new labour law much to dismay of the labourers and that AITUC took the steps as oppressing the labour by the Modi government.
The new law does not allow the labourers to form union and recruitment is done through contract basis with possibility of dismissal at any point of time alleged Nara.
He also said that AITUC stands for the welfare of labourers.
It is also informed that the ongoing national meet of AITUC at Patiala will end on Monday, June 29 .
