Tamu, located near the Indo-Myanmar border in Myanmar, is one of the more famous tourist destinations visited by the people of Manipur.
Though Tamu town has many unique and mesmerising destinations, its market serves as the main hotspot for the tourists.
The availability of a variety of goods is the main factor that draws a large number of tourists to the market.
The identities of hardwork and determination established by the women vendors to sustain their livelihood are other attractive package for the tourists.
Main goods available in the market are mustard leaves, spring onions, bottle gourd, pumpkin, wild basil (mayangton), coriander and pumpkin leaves.
Apart from street vending, women can also be seen selling vegetables from their two-wheeler bikes under scorching heat.
Most of the stores in Namphalong market are also run by women.
It may be noted that Burma's Government has launched a National strategic plan in 2013 to empower women in the country by improving women's livelihood.
