No trucks with other parties in ADC: BJP

In a crippling blow to Manipur unit of NPF, State BJP chief Th Chaoba on Sunday clarified the party's stand on not to forge alliance with any political party in the formation of councils in the six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) .
President of Manipur unit Naga People's Front (NPF) President Awangbou Newmai at a recent press conference here had formally announced that his party had forged an alliance with BJP in Tamenglong to form the district council.
"I reiterate my party's stand not to enter into alliance with any party.
There is no change in the decision," Chaoba told journalists at the party office on Sunday.
He stated that all party candidates who had fought the recent ADC polls along with the office bearers of all districts took the decision.
He sent a strong message to all party men that they would not be allowed to form alliance with any party in all the six ADCs.
Chaoba noted that the Anti-Defection Law under the Tenth Schedule is not applicable to the ADCs, but he made stand of BJP clear that it is not going with any party this time.
The former MP expressed unhappiness over the delay in the formation of councils by the ruling Congress and said since the swearing-in ceremony is pending all those who were elected in the ADC polls cannot be called council members as of now.
Meanwhile, Chaoba informed that a 9-member team of the State BJP visited New Delhi recently and met party National President Amit Shah and a host of Union Ministers with whom the team discussed the National Highways, the ongoing railway project and development in tribal areas.
The BJP team also discussed with the Central leaders to work out a strategy for the upcoming by-election in Manipur, he said.
He said the team also called on Home Minister Rajnath Singh during the trip and apprised him of the current law and order situation in Manipur, apart from border issue.
They also called on Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and the Union Transport Secretary with whom the team discussed the present state of affairs along all National Highways leading to the State, Chaoba added.
He disclosed that Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram is visiting Imphal during which he will be participating in a seminar on tribal area inclusive development.
