The joint statement recalled that on 28th July, 2014, Ringsanbou Newmai from Tamei village, a BA 5th Semester student of Don Bosco College, Maram was detained and tortured in inhuman manner.
The victim was rescue on 29th July after paying Rs.5000/- and now undergoing medical treatment for damage of intestinal, kidney, liver, broken jaw etc.
in the ICU of JNIMS Hospital since 30th July.
The successful of bandh has symbolised the people expressing in one voice against such criminal activities.
The ZYF, AZSU and ZSUM expressed deep appreciation to all the people for the support and cooperation extended towards the efforts of eradicating crime against humanity, the joint statement said.
The joint statement further said the State Govt.was extremely vocal against crime whenever a person from Manipur suffered particularly in Delhi.
However, it is absurd to see remaining silent and unable to deal it accordingly when extreme heinous crime is happened just under its nose.
Is it the degree of injury suffered by the victim not enough for the police department to arrest the accused? Is there any pardonable law for some person to walk free even after committing extreme crime? What is the justification for the police department to remain inaction? There have been numerous cases of physical assault on students in Don Bosco College, Maram in the past therefore, in order to avoid recurrence of such crime in future, the ZYF, AZSU and ZSUM will pursue till justice is delivered to the victim and any consequences shall be the responsibilities of the State Govt, the joint statement added.
