IRCS to give loans to widows of armed violence victims

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur State Branch will provide a soft loan of Rs.10000 each to the widows of those people killed in armed violence in the state.
The announcement for providing loans to the widows was made by General Secretary of IRCS, Manipur State Branch Dr Y Mohen during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Friday.
Dr Mohen said that an amount of Rs.five lakh would be used to provide loans to 50 widows in the first phase.
25 members each from two organiza-tions, namely Manipur Conflict Widows' Organiza-tion and Extrajudicial Execution Victims' Families Association of Manipur have been selected as beneficiaries for the first phase.
Out of the sum of Rs.five lakh to be used in providing loans, Rs.three lakh has been donated by Irom Chanu Sharmila, Rs.one lakh by S Premi, wife of (late) Krishnadas, and another Rs.one lakh by IRCS Manipur, he said.
The General Secretary further announced that the loans would be distributed on February 20 at the headquarters of IRCS, Manipur State Branch located at Airport Road.
Interested widows could enroll themselves at the branch office of IRCS Manipur to avail the loan, he added.
Dr Mohen also said that a project for supporting livelihood of 100 families, which was initiated by IRCS Manipur Branch during the tenure of the then Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat, has received necessary appro-val from the authorities.
Secretary of EVFAM Idina Yaikhom and Secretary of Manipur Conflicts Widows' Organization Farida appreciated the functionaries of IRCS, Manipur State Branch for starting such noble cause for the widows of victim of the armed conflict.
