Imphal, November 12 2018:
Condemning the characterisation of the members of Manipur University community as pawns by representatives speaking on behalf of the political party in power, Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) has clarified that the university community does not function according to the whims and diktats of any political party or individual.
A press release 4ssued by the vice president of MUTA today explained that the months old crisis in the university was due to the appointment of a Vice Chancellor purely on political considerations without examining the commitment of the individual to the academic atmosphere and the society.
It alleged that the people representing the political party in power have refused to admit the inefficiency and academic non-commitment on part of AP Pandey who was appointed as the VC of the university and added that these people have failed to appreciate the atmosphere of liberal thoughts and sharing of collective wisdom for academic, institutional and social advancement.
The latest example of this fascist approach to destroying every institution in the country is the labelling of all members of Manipur University community as mere political pawns in the hands of one political party, it added.
MUTA conveyed that the university community condemns the characterisation of the members as pawns by representatives speaking on behalf of the political party in power and added that the community does not function on the whims and diktats of any political party.
