Forest Dept moots Amur Falcon district

Forest Department has initiated due process to declare Tamenglong as Amur Falcon district with a view to rope in maximum number of people in the department's efforts to protect Amur Falcons which take temporary shelter in the district every year.
The Department has also been planning to cover Noney district too when Tamenglong is declared as Amur Falcon district.
In the aftermath of the satellite radio transmitter fitted Amur Falcon 'Manipur' found killed at Kebuching, anti-poaching squads set up by village volunteers have started patrolling vulnerable areas together with staff of Forest Department, informed a source.
In association with Chiulon Village Authority, volunteers of one anti-poaching squad seized an air-gun this morning.
Meanwhile, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest K Angami today handed over a Gypsy to the Western Forest Division, Tamenglong with a view to enhance mobility of the anti-poaching squads.
Informing that an awareness campaign would be launched at Kebuching on Wednesday on the importance of protecting Amur Falcons and other wild animals, the source said that 'Tamenglong', the other satellite transmitter fitted Amur Falcon is still safe and sound.
Notably, 'Manipur' was fitted with radio transmitter on November 5 before it was killed on November 9 .
