Improving condition of women weavers and artisans will result in development of Manipur: Karam Shyam

CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam has claimed that the handloom and handicraft talents of Manipur will play a commanding role in the development of the State in the future.
He made the statement during the 8th day of MANITEX 2018 which is being organised at Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong, under the aegis of Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, today.
Karam Shyam said that women, specially the weavers and artisans, play a huge role in developing the handloom and handicraft sector of Manipur.
As such, improving the condition of the women weavers and artisans will automatically result in development of Manipur, he added.
Pointing out that the Directorate is taking up various steps to eliminate the lack of proper markets for the handloom and handicraft products, the Minister said that the State Government recognises the role of women in the overall development of the State as well as in presenting the State at the world stage.
On the other hand, he also urged the women and mothers of the State to be confident and take part in the competition for advancement which is the norm in today's world.
Speaking about the opportunities brought by the advancement in technology, he also appealed to all to take advantage of modern facilities like e-marketing for promoting and selling handloom and handicraft products.
Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd Chairman S Rajen was also present at the event.
As a part of the event, Khwairamband Keithel Saktam Kanba Lup and Khwairamband Keithel Sinpham Kanba Lup were honoured for their contribution towards development of handloom and handicraft in the State.
The award included a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, certificates and a Lengyan.
Numerous experts also spoke on the topic of export as well as e-marketing.
