Imphal, March 26 2010:
An oil tanker was torched and five other vehicles were damaged in National Highway-53 Friday by the suspected bandh supporters.
The incident took place Thursday morning in Patsoi area, Imphal West district where the windshields of five vehicles were reportedly broken and one truck was partially burnt.
However, the situation was controlled after the police intervened.
It is worth mentioning that the Yurembam Land Protection Demand Committee has called an indefinite bandh from Thursday midnight opposing against the construction of 400 Mega KV at the Yurembam power sub-station by the Government.
The committee reportedly opposed the construction stating that the land in the vicinity such as Yurembam, Tabungkhok and Patsoi, Imphal West district were affected owing to the construction of the power sub station.
The public in the area had reportedly demanded to shift the construction site.
Meanwhile, the district commissioner (DC) of Imphal West district clamped 144 crpc since Friday evening following the bandh call.
