Completion of renovation cum expansion works of the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) near Khuman Lampak is being targeted well ahead of the specified period.
As per agreement reached between the work agency M/s Avantika Construction Pvt Ltd and Government of Manipur construction activities are supposed to be completed within two years from the day the work begins.
an agency representative speaking to the Sangai Express made a bold statement that unlike familiar trend of many development/construction works in the State failing to meet completion deadline set tentatively, the bus terminus would be presented for ceremonial inauguration within december month of ongoing year.
Recounting that related works of the bus terminus with a parking capacity of 300 heavy passenger carriers began on January 27 this year, the agency official expressed that the only hurdle that might hamper or delay construction activities would be exceptional cases of prolong law and order problem in the near future in the State.
Further informing that till date, among other construction works, 214 columns (pillars) have been put in place to support a 91.12 x 56 metre terminal building where the vehicles would be parked, the official described progress of the work as significant for the large number of labourers engaged in various works are free from any form of external disturbances.
in case the same pace of work could be maintained the agreed terms for completion within two years would be irrelevant as the agency is confident and committed to present the bus terminus in its complete form in only 12 months, he asserted.
It has been informed that design work for the Khuman lampak ISBT was handled by M/s Premier Consulting Engineers and Architect Pvt Ltd, a Majorkhul-based firm and is being constructed under the funding of the North Eastern Council.
So far, construction of compound wall, and entry/exit gates have been completed, the agency representative said.
Upon completion, ground floor of the terminus building would accommodate three office enclosures, one 12x6 metre medical room, an ATM centre, two rooms for security personnel, passengers' waiting blocks, two lunch/snack bars, ticket counters and four toilet blocks.
On the first floor of the terminal structure, offices of the tourism department, manager and liaison officials would be located.
Moreover, an ongoing construction of over-bridges aimed for completion along with the terminal building works would criss-cross the massive structure for swifter movement of passengers from one end of the complex to the other.
