People for Nature (PFN), a member of the Joint Co ordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) carried out a drive yesterday morning at Ikop Pat and its surrounding areas and found 11 nets used for trapping birds and five birds were rescued.
The rescued birds were released at the spot.
Speaking to media persons, joint secretary of PFN Sunder Khundrakpam said that JCCWB has been striving to protect wild life and the natural environment in various parts of the State.
Though the case of hunting of wild animals and birds has reduced considerably, still there are instances of them being hunted with guns and poison.
He sought the support and cooperation of all for safeguarding the wild life as they contribute majorly in maintaining the ecological balance.
He further reiterated that those caught in trapping and catching of wild life would be awarded befitting punishment as per the Wildlife Protection Act.
