Two suspects involved in lobbing of bomb at Raj Bhavan arrested
Police claims both as cadre of UNLF, says both involved in various criminal activities

Imphal, January 25 2021: State police today claimed arrest of two persons who had lobbed bomb at Raj Bhavan on the evening of January 19.As per their confession they lobbed the hand grenade under the instruction of one Achouba , a hard core member of the armed rebel group UNLF.

In a press conference held today at Imphal West district police head quarter, DIG (Zone 1) Themthing said that both are trained bomb experts and had committed various activities of lobbing and exploding bomb at various places.

He however said that both are drug users and have been utilized in several extortion activities.

On January 19, at around 4.30 pm 2 unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade at the security forces deployed at Raj Bhavan gate amidst tight security arrangement in connection with the preparation of the Republic Day Ceremony.

The bomb however didn't explode.

"We have been investigating over the matter and with the help of the CCTV camera footage which was installed at the area, our team managed to trace the culprits who had lobbed the hand grenade", Themthing said.

He said following intelligence input and after analyzing the CCTV footage collected from around Imphal area a combined team of CDO Imphal west led by Addl SP Amarjit , Y Kishorchand DSP CDO Imphal west, P Achouba OC CDO Imphal west and city police station led by SDPO Imphal Bidyapati Thingbaijam and CITY OC inspector M Sudhirkumar under the overall supervision of SP IW arrested one of the accused person namely Lisham Iboshana Meitei @ Jojo @ Kengba @ Michael @ Red 42 yrs, S/o (L) L Shamungou Meitei of Lisham Leirak Khongman Zone-3 from his house.

Several equipments use for making of explosive devices were also reportedly recovered from his possession.

Those recovered item includes 8 nos.of circuit devices, 2 remote control white in colour along with 1 mobile handset and 2 SIM cards.

On further follow up action the second accused person namely Konsam Manithoi Singh (46) .

S/o K.Bihari Singh of Lairikyengbam Leikai Salanthong, Imphal East Manipur was also arrested on 25/01/2021 by CDO IW team assisted by a team of City PS and from his instance one (120 Asta silky silver in colour, 1 pleasure red in colour, 4 mobile handset were recovered from him.

Both work under the command of UNLF Achou @ Bhogen, Themthing said.

Both of them also reportedly confessed to have committed the crime of hurling a hand grenade to security forces deployed at Lilashing Khongnangkhong in the month of July 2019 .

They also reportedly claimed responsibility for the hurling of hand grenade to security forces at AG gate in the month of January 2020 and also the Grenade blast and IED plantation at Yaiskul Police lane in the month of July 2019 among others.
