Case of lobbing grenade at Raj Bhavan: Two pulled up

Imphal, January 25 2021:
Two individuals have been apprehended by Imphal West district police in connection with a case of grenade attack at the Raj Bhavan.
Briefing media persons at Imphal West district police headquarters, IGP K Jayenta said that the two individuals were apprehended in the course of a search operation carried out by Imphal West district police since yesterday.
Both of them are UNLF cadres who were released on bail after they were arrested.
Eight circuit boards and two remote control units used in assembling improvised explosive devices (IED) were seized from their possession, Jayenta said.

Saying that they must have lobbed the hand grenade with an intention to disturb the Republic Day celebration, the IGP, citing the items seized from their possession, expressed strong suspicion that the duo might have planted other bombs at one place or another.
He then appealed to the masses to inform the nearest police station if anyone comes across any object which looks like or is suspected to be explosive.
DIG Themthing Ngasangva said that the Imphal West district police have been investigating the case of a hand grenade being lobbed at the Raj Bhavan on January 19 by collecting all available CCTV footages.
A police team led by Additional SP (Ops) Amarjit Lamabam carried out a search operation at Khongman Lisham Leirak yesterday.
In the course of the search operation, Lisham Ibosana alias Jojo alias Kengba alias Michael alias Red (42) s/o late Samungou of Khongman Lisham Leirak was pulled up from his residence.
Eight circuit boards, two remote control units, one mobile handset and two Sim cards were seized from his possession, Themthing said.
Further, Konsam Manithoi (46) s/o Bihari of Lairikyengbam Leikai Salanthong was pulled up from his residence today.
One car (Hyundai i-20 Asta), one scooter (Hero Pleasure) and four mobile handsets were seized from the possession of Manithoi, according to the DIG.
He said that both of them are UNLF cadres who are out on bail and it has been established that they were involved in different cases of bomb blasts in and around Imphal city.
Further investigation is on, Themthing Ngasangva added.
Cordon and search operations have been intensified in the alst few days ahead of the Republic Day celebration, which has bene boycotted by different underground outfits including CorCom and ASUK.
