Imphal, January 25 2021:
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) expressed its support for the Farmer's Tractor Parade in Delhi on the occasion of Republic Day.
The Tractor Parade is part of the ongoing farmer's movement against the three Farm Laws which were passed by the BJP Government in Parliament last year, said a statement of NEFIS.
Though the Government has been unwilling to withdraw these laws, it has not just been forced to listen to the demands of the farmers, but allow the farmers to hold the tractor parade despite its reservations.
The ongoing movement has proven that the people's movements cannot be easily curbed, it added.
NEFIS mentioned that the Republic Day Parade of the farmers which has received huge support from people across the country highlights that it is the people who are supreme in any democratic republic and any law which affects them should be only passed after their consent.
The farmer's movement expresses the aspirations of the small-marginal farmers in the entire country and there is a need to take the movement ahead on the demands of small-marginal farmers and agricultural workers who form the majority in rural areas.
The Farmers' Parade is a historic event in the history of India, it added.
NEFIS further appealed to immediately repeal the Farm Laws and conveyed its solidarity to the farmer's movement.
