Landlord fined for violation of ILP norms

Along with arresting two non-Manipuris from a rented house in Lilong Alia Lamkhai area, Masjid road on the charge of non-renewal of Inner Line Permit, Lilong police imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the landlord for allowing the migrant labourers to stay with the invalid permits.
The two non-Manipuris with invalid Inner Line Permits were found staying in a house belonging to one Syed Hitjur Rahman (54), s/o late Jalaluddin of Lilong Alia Lamkhai area Masjid during a routine ILP verification drive carried out by a team of Lilong police station led by OC N Tikendra along with women personnel on Saturday.
The arrested non-Manipuris have been identified as Gorakh Ray (47) S/o Amavasi Ray of Khalispur village, Saran district, Bihar and his wife Sugiya Devi (45) .
Parading the two non-Ma-nipiuris along with the landlord before media persons at Lilong police station on Saturday evening, Thoubal SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam informed that all necessary formalities against the two non-Manipuris will be taken up as per the Manipur Inner Line Permit 1st Amendment Guidelines, 2022.The landlord Hifjur Rahman, who rented rooms to the two non-Ma-nipuri despite knowing that they do not possess valid ILP has also been imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 (Rs 5000 each for one person) according to the Manipur Inner Line Permit Guideline 2019 (Manipur Inner Line Permit 1st Amendment Guidelines, 2022) .
The SP also appealed to all house owners, contractors, firms, agencies and companies engaging non-locals to verify their documents before engaging them or taking them on rent.
